Massage With a Goal
Sometimes you don’t just want to relax. You want something to feel different when you leave.
Maybe your neck never seems to loosen. Your shoulders feel tight after long days at work. Your hips or back are limiting the way you move. Or perhaps you’ve been asking for deep tissue massage because stronger pressure seems like the only thing that gets results.
At Spirit & Body Massage in Prescott Valley, Focused Therapeutic Massage takes a different approach.
Instead of choosing a massage based on pressure or a single technique, we begin with what you want from your session. Your therapist then draws from years of experience and multiple massage modalities to create purposeful bodywork around your body, your comfort and your goals.
The goal isn’t simply to go deeper. It’s to work smarter.
Looking for Deep Tissue Massage?
We understand why people ask for deep tissue massage.
Usually, they aren’t searching for pressure just for the sake of pressure. They’re looking for relief from stubborn tension, tight muscles, restricted movement or an area that never seems to let go.
Strong pressure can feel wonderful—and when it’s appropriate, it can absolutely be part of your massage. But deeper pressure isn’t automatically more effective.
Sometimes the body responds better to slow, sustained pressure. Sometimes focused trigger point work is helpful. Another area may benefit from myofascial techniques, stretching, movement or the soothing flow of Swedish massage.
That’s why we don’t define a therapeutic massage by how hard we press.
We define it by what we’re trying to accomplish.
What Is Focused Therapeutic Massage?
Focused Therapeutic Massage is our approach to what is sometimes called deep tissue massage, medical massage, clinical massage or treatment massage.
Rather than following one predetermined routine, your therapist combines techniques according to what you’re experiencing and how your body responds during the session.
Your massage may incorporate elements of:
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Myofascial Release
- Neuromuscular techniques
- Connective Tissue Massage
- Swedish Massage ranging from light to strong pressure
- Muscle energy and stretching techniques
- Focused compression
- Movement and range-of-motion techniques
- Heat, cold or other therapeutic tools when appropriate
You don’t need to know which technique you need before you arrive.
That’s our job.
Tell us what bothers you, what feels restricted and what you’d like to feel differently when you leave. We’ll build the session from there.
Strong Doesn’t Have to Mean Deep
For years, massage has often been described simply as light, medium or deep.
We think there’s a better conversation to have.
Pressure is just one part of an effective massage. Pace, direction, technique, positioning, movement and your body’s response all matter.
Some clients enjoy strong, focused pressure. Others get better results from moderate pressure applied slowly and precisely. Your therapist may even use different levels of pressure in different areas during the same massage.
At Spirit & Body Massage,
we work with your body rather than against it.
Your massage should never become a contest to see how much pressure you can tolerate.
What Can We Focus On?
Focused Therapeutic Massage may be a good choice when muscular tension, discomfort or restricted movement is interfering with everyday life.
Clients often ask us to focus on areas such as:
- Neck and shoulder tension
- Tight or overworked back muscles
- Hip and glute tensionMuscle soreness and fatigue
- Repetitive-use tensionLimited or uncomfortable movement
- Persistent muscle knotsPostural tension from sitting or working
- Muscular tension associated with old injuries
- General stiffness and loss of flexibility
You can come in with one specific problem area or simply tell us, “Something doesn’t feel right.”
We’ll start there.
More Than One Technique
One of the greatest advantages of working with an experienced massage therapist is that the session doesn’t have to stay inside the boundaries of one modality.
A stubborn shoulder may benefit from Trigger Point Therapy. Restricted movement may lead your therapist toward Myofascial Release. Another area may respond beautifully to Swedish techniques, stretching or focused compression.
These modalities aren’t separate boxes your body has to fit into.
They’re part of your therapist’s toolbox.
At Spirit & Body Massage, the technique serves the goal—not the other way around.

Experience You Can Feel
Our massage therapists each bring more than seven years of hands-on experience, with advanced knowledge across multiple massage modalities.
That experience matters.
It helps your therapist recognize when to change pressure, slow down, approach an area differently, incorporate another technique—or simply give the body time to respond.
We don’t believe a great therapeutic massage comes from performing the same routine on every client.
It comes from listening, adapting and knowing what to do next.
What to Expect From Your Session
Your massage begins with a conversation.
Tell your therapist what’s bothering you, how it affects your everyday life and what you hope will feel different after your massage.
From there, we’ll customize the session around you.
You don’t need to request deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial or another specific technique unless there’s something you particularly enjoy. Your therapist can blend appropriate techniques throughout your massage while continually adapting the pressure and approach to your comfort.
And because therapeutic techniques are part of how we practice massage, there are no technique upcharges.
It’s simply your massage—customized for you.
Don’t Choose a Technique. Choose How You Want to Feel.
You don’t have to know the difference between myofascial, connective tissue, neuromuscular/trigger point or arthritis techniques to receive an exceptional massage.
You just need to know what you want help with. Tell us where you’d like to begin.
Less tension. Easier movement. Greater comfort.
A body that simply feels better.
